This course will enable students to develop their leadership and performance management skills and manage multiple challenges faced by managers in contemporary and varied commercial or not for profit environments. The course focus will be on building valuable knowledge and a range of practical skills that are relevant and useful across business and industry.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY

The BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (CRICOS code 092359G) comprises 12 units of competency. 

These units of competency are comprised of 4 core units and 8 elective units. 

New Era Institute deliver these units of competency sequentially over four 10 week terms.

The Course will involve:

The time frame allows up to 12 months to complete the course and students are expected to study approximately 8 – 10.5 hours on average weekly, which is between 69 – 90 minutes daily structured as guided study and assessment preparation and completion. This is a guide and is dependent on your current level of experience, knowledge and skill.

Course Outline

Students will attend 15 hours per week face to face training sessions at the New Era Institute campus, plus 5 hours online content including assessments, combined with guided study plus assessment preparation and completion time (a recommended 8.5 – 10 hours on average each week, which is between 65 – 90 minutes daily).

A variety of written learning activities will reinforce theoretical knowledge, and real world practical skills will be practised using simulated workplace activities where learning will be placed into context.  The course units have been sequenced in a way that allows a logical progression that aides your learning. Participants will be provided with professionally presented reference material to assist them to develop their knowledge of this exciting subject area.

Course Duration

The course duration is 50 weeks (40 weeks’ tuition and 10 weeks’ break between terms).

The course is designed to be delivered in 4 terms – each term is 10 weeks.

Location

Classroom sessions and practical activities (simulation) will be delivered at:

Entry Requirements

There are no specified entry requirements for this qualification specified within the Business Services Training Package.

Noting this, New Era Institute requires students who undertake this course to:

  • Have attained the age  of 18 years or over by the start of the course
  • Demonstrate good command of written and spoken English
  • Verified evidence of IELTS Level 5.5 or equivalent
  • Have completed an equivalent secondary schooling level of a Higher School Certificate (year 12 in Australian schools) or can demonstrate suitable work or life experience
  • Meet the Student Visa (Sub-class 500) requirements

Please note. New Era Institute will engage with students expressing interest in enrolment to discuss their language, literacy and numeracy skills.

New Era Institute can provide additional learning support to students who require basic assistance. For students who have more fundamental support needs, New Era Institute can refer these students to a specialist language, literacy and numeracy development provider who can assist students to improve their language, literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to suitably commence the course.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants can apply for recognition of their existing skills and knowledge that are relevant to the units of competency within the program. These skills and knowledge may have been obtained through workplace training or experience and may reduce the number of units required to be completed during the program.

The acknowledgement of skills and knowledge that have been gained through training, work, or life experiences into formal competencies. The assessment of RPL is made from the evidence provided against the units of competency (elements and performance criteria) as described in the relevant endorsed Training Package.

If RPL is approved, Student Administration must adjust an International student’s COE to reflect any reduction in the period of study the student is enrolled. (The study load will remain 20 hours per week as per your visa requirements).

Classroom Expectations

All Students are expected to present to class on time and to wear neat, casual attire suitable for participation in learning activities. You are not expected to wear business attire but for some presentations students may wish to show their professionalism and ‘dress up’ for effect.

Student will require basic stationary and a notebook according to their own study preferences during classroom learning sessions and their own self-paced study. Access to a computer which has an internet connection is recommended to assist students to undertake the 5 hours of online study and research in response to some assessment tasks.

Students are encouraged to bring portable electronic devices to classroom sessions such a small laptops or tablets if they wish. Students are advised that no provision will be made to charge these devices in the classroom and charging or power extension leads are not to be used in the classroom. Students are issued with a prescribed text book to assist with their study.

Assessment Methods/Tools

The general methods used in this course to assess students are written assessments, oral assessments and practical assessments. A variety assessment tools are used to gather evidence for each of these general methods to determine a student’s competence.

New Era Institute have developed assessment tools which support the assessment of applicable units of competency in accordance with the requirements of industry Training Packages. New Era Institute staff members ensure that tools developed for assessment fit with the requirements of the target industry or wider industry needs.

The following are examples of assessment tools which have been incorporated into an assessment strategy to meet the Training Package and industry requirements, the rules of evidence and the principles of assessment:

  • Direct observation checklist of workplace tasks being performed;
  • Structured activities (simulation activities) that will lead to the demonstration of workplace tasks;
  • Questioning of required knowledge (written);
  • Reports and planning documents;
  • Portfolios;
  • Team Meetings (eg. agendas, plans, notes), Interviews, Workplace Inspections for WH&S; and
  • Workplace templates.
